At the beginning, Yizo Yizo was a divisive and well-liked TV show about an all-black high school in Johannesburg. The series shows a young rape victim plagued by nightmares, the perpetrators adjusting to prison life while awaiting their trial, the politics of school budgetary and staff cuts, an opportunistic teacher-student affair, and a teacher who is unable to bridge cultural gaps between herself and her students. It is as addictive as a soap opera but as current as a news magazine.
