The narrative takes set in a legendary world populated by creatures from Mexican folklore. It centers on witches who prey on youngsters and has a curse reference in its title. In an effort to discover a treatment for her younger sister's unexplained ailment, 13-year-old Nala leaves the city with her family and heads to her grandmother's home in the countryside. She quickly discovers the truth about her grandmother, though.
