In 1858, a bounty hunter by the name of King Schultz goes in search of and purchases a slave by the name of Django because he has to find certain men. After locating them, Django seeks for Broomhilda, his wife, whom his former owner sold separately from him for attempting to flee. If he chooses to stay with him and be his partner, Schultz offers to assist him. They eventually find out that she was bought by a Mississippi plantation. They devise a scheme so that the owner will invite them into his home and they can find a method after realizing they couldn't just go in and declare they want her.
