A perceptive examination of life, love, and the value of friendship
The heartwarming tale A MAN CALLED OTTO shows how one unusual friendship may improve a person's lot in life. Tom Hanks' character Otto Anderson is an elderly, bitter, and very traditional widower. Otto encounters his equal when the pregnant Marisol (Mariana Trevio) and her small family move in across the street from him. Despite their initial disagreements, they gradually become friends, and Marisol encourages Otto to rediscover his enthusiasm for life.
The film is a charming comedy drama full of enjoyment and humour as well as poignant emotional moments. It is both striking and unsettling how honestly and unapologetically the novel explores suicide.
